The Program of Elementary Mathematics Education is a bachelor's degree program in the Department of Elementary Education in the Faculty of Education. The program was founded in the year of 2007 with accepting 40 students. The program, which accepts students with exams made every year by Student Selection and Placement Center (OSYM) have increased its student accepting capacity to 75 in 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 academic year and then to 80 in 2010-2011 academic year.
The purpose of Mathematics Education Program is to educate mathematics teachers who will teach in the lower secondary school level (5th to 8th grades). Based on the latest developments in mathematics education our courses aim to support heavily teacher candidates’ knowledge for mathematics teaching which includes mathematics content knowledge, mathematics pedagogical knowledge. Beside the required courses, the program offers of teaching profession area of specialization, culture and practice in the field. Students can also take elective courses.
Mathematics Education located in Gaziantep Education Faculty whose location is very close to the social facilities in the main campus area. In particular, courses for field education are carried out in a mathematics laboratory built with instructional materials, so that teacher candidates have the opportunity to move their learning-teaching skills to a higher level. Experienced in the fields of research and teacher training that actively teach in our program; With 2 Associate Professors, 1 Assistant Professor and 3 Research Assistants, we strive to reach our goal of raising teachers who can meet competencies at international level. Students who score points on the MF-1 type can choose our program from examinations conducted by OSYM.
