The mission of the Department of Electrical and Electronics is to provide students with a professional training enabling them to work effectively in industry and do applied research at a national and international level. The program encourages the students to be resourceful and think analytically.

The curriculum has common courses in all engineering departments such as calculus, physics and chemistry in the first year. Second year students take basic electrical engineering courses such as circuit analysis, electro-magnetics and mathematics. The third year has more specialized courses such as electronics, control, digital circuits and electrical machines. During the first three years students must also select a number of technical and non-technical elective courses from other departments. In addition to taught course, second and third year students perform a one month summer-training in industry. Senior students may choose from many elective courses based on their interest in different fields of electrical engineering. Before graduation every student must take a Graduation Project which is a supervised study that includes design and/or construction.

In addition to our normal (day time) undergraduate program, the program has been repeated for a second group of students during evening hours since 2008. Successful students may enroll for minor and double major programs. Students in the Department of Electrical and Electronics may obtain a second B.Sc. diploma in Industrial Engineering or Mechanical Engineering. A minor certificate may be obtained in all other departments of the Faculty of Engineering and also in the Department of Business Administration in the Faculty of Economic and Administrative Sciences.

The graduate program, first established in 1977, offers the student to specialize in circuits and systems, electronics, telecommunications, electro-magnetic fields and microwave technology, control, electrical systems, and electrical machines. The graduates are awarded M.Sc. or Ph.D. degrees at the end of this program.

There are 10 laboratories for educational and research purposes and a maintenance and repair center. A project laboratory is also available for student hobby projects.

At present, the department has 27 full-time faculty members. The members are 6 professors, 4 associate professor, and 5 assistant professors. There is 1 research assitans dr. and 11 research assistants.

The graduates of the department may be employed in electricity, electronics, and communication sectors. They can find jobs in radio and TV broadcasting institutions, internet services and related organizations, national or international companies, research and development in the health sector, and production and marketing units. Currently, we have graduates doing research at prestigious universities.

Our department is accredited by the Turkish Association for Evaluation and Accreditation of Engineering Programs for two years from 30.09.2009, and is awarded with the EUR-ACE label.
