Electroacoustic transduction mechanisms and the modeling techniques used in the design of microphones and loudspeakers. Transducer mechanisms and applications. Electrical analogues. Impedance, mobility, sources, transformers. Loudspeaker loading. Sealed cabinet, bass reflex, transmission line, horns. Loudspeaker systems. Cross-over networks, standards and criteria. Carbon, rocking-armature, moving-coil, capacitor, electret, piezo-electric. The instrumentation pressure microphone. Sensitivity, frequency response, diffraction and directivity, distortion, dynamic range, calibration. Other omni-directional microphones. Directional microphones. Pressure gradient, phase-shift principle, interference tubes, directional arrays.
